"Pisgah Covered Bridge in Late Morning"

Oil on linen on panel, 8 x 6 inches, $150
This covered bridge is located in Randolph County, NC. It's a three span bridge that crosses over the sleepy West Fork of the Little River within the boundaries of the Uwharrie National Forest. It was originally built in 1911 and then restored, when a flash flood destroyed it in 2003, using 90 percent of the original materials. During the restoration a wood shingle roof was added, which returned the bridge to the way it was first built (for nearly 70 years it had a tin roof).

Because the way the light fell on the bridge changed so quickly, it took me two days to finish this painting. I especially liked the way the inside of the bridge was illuminated by light bouncing off of the ground and that only lasted for a couple of hours each day.
