"Smokehouse Field" SOLD

Oil on linen on panel, 6.5 x 8.5 inches

I absolutely love this farm in Walkertown, NC. It belongs to my great-aunt Armin Hammock Ashby who just celebrated her 93rd birthday! In the early to mid-1900s it was a typical tobacco farm with pigs, chickens, horses and cows. Today, those are all gone, but what does remain are a tobacco barn, feed barn, well house and this smokehouse (to name a few).

The composition, here, is pretty basic and unplanned. But I was also inspired to do the sketch below, which emphasizes the majestic maple. I plan to do a painting of this composition, as well, maybe adding flowers to the front porch of the house for added interest.
