"No Shade for Chickens" SOLD

Oil on linen on panel, 6.5 x 8.5 inches

This painting received an Honorable Mention award at the Cary Gallery of Artists, Fourth Annual Small Treasures Juried Show. North Carolina artist, Mary Rountree Moore was the juror.

When I began this plein air painting, the ceramic chickens were what appealed to me the most. But they turned out to be such a small part of the composition and my attention quickly turned to the red smokehouse. The irregularity of its clapboards became very interesting. And, yes, you might recognize this as the same smokehouse that I've painted before at my great-aunt Armin's farm.
